My Thoughts

I’m so happy!  I love reading great books and this was truly a great book!  Great ready, everyone, Christin Lee is going to be an extremely well known YA author!

I was already excited to read Supremacy just from reading the description that the author sent to me, but as I got into it I just couldn’t put it down!  Actually, I wasn’t completely honest just now, I had to put it down last night because it was late and my husband really wanted me to turn the bright iPad off so he could sleep.  But then this morning I picked it back up and let all of my other responsibilities (laundry, dishes, etc.) wait while I devoured the rest of it!

So, so, so good!  It is so good!  I was trying to tell someone about this book and I tried to think of a book to compare it to but I can’t think of anything!  At least, none that I’ve read so far.

Now, I did find the ending extremely frustrating.  It was left so open!  That’s a good thing for books that are in a series, I guess, but I really, really needed more information before ending this book!  I will DEFINITELY be needing the next one in the series when it is available!

Supremacy by Christin Lee will be available on June 3rd but you can preorder the ebook now on Amazon.  If you like to read YA Fantasy books, do yourself a favor and get it!  You won’t be sorry!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the cover!  Just look at the beautiful cover!  Get this book!

The Mine by John A. Heldt

Goodreads Summary

In May 2000, Joel Smith is a cocky, adventurous young man who sees the world as his playground. But when the college senior, days from graduation, enters an abandoned Montana mine, he discovers the price of reckless curiosity. He emerges in May 1941 with a cell phone he can't use, money he can't spend, and little but his wits to guide his way. Stuck in the age of swing dancing and a peacetime draft, Joel begins a new life as the nation drifts toward war. With the help of his 21-year-old trailblazing grandmother and her friends, he finds his place in a world he knew only from movies and books. But when an opportunity comes to return to the present, Joel must decide whether to leave his new love in the past or choose a course that will alter their lives forever. THE MINE follows a humbled man through a critical time in history as he adjusts to new surroundings and wrestles with the knowledge of things to come.

My Thoughts

Oh, how I loved this book!  So good!  I have never read a ‘time travel’ book before so I really didn’t know what to expect.  I was certainly hoping that it would be a good read and it was!

Let me be totally real with you though, when I first started reading The Mine my immediate thought was that I wasn’t going to enjoy it.  The first chapter did not give me a great impression of Joel.  In fact, I did not like Joel at all.  He seemed like a total brat.  And then, when he first went back in time (I’m trying not to give spoilers, guys) it seemed like he adapted a little too easily.

Then, I started thinking about how I always say I was born in the wrong era.  I thought about how I might feel if I was able to go back in time… I think I’d do great too!  I might have a little longer adjustment time than Joel did, but that might just be a personality difference between us (you know, if he was a real person… sometimes I get wrapped up in a story and I forget it’s not real).

The ending was absolutely spectacular!  I adored it!  I was actually hoping for that kind of ending but I didn’t imagine it quite the way it happened.  I liked Mr. Heldt’s version better than the one I created in my mind J

I will definitely be recommending this book!  I was extremely good and I can’t wait to read another John A. Heldt book again soon!

#MarriageMatters

In a society filled with knowledge, wisdom, and advice, why do we still struggle with basic principles of communicating in our relationships? There doesn't seem to be a problem with our communication when we are pursuing a relationship. So why is it such a struggle to keep that line of communication open after we are involved?

◊Every time I try to communicate with my spouse, it leads to arguments. What should I do?

◊What can I do to open the lines of communication in our marriage?

◊We never talk about our problems? What should we do?

These are some of the questions that arose in my heart when I decided to write this book. I've been married for nearly a decade, and to some that may be a drop in the bucket and to others, it could seem like a lifetime. No matter where you may fall on the spectrum, one thing is for sure, without proper communication, any marriage or relationship will struggle and possibly fail.

In this particular book I have developed 10 Principles of Effective Communication. Stop ignoring the signs, and follow these simple principles to rebuilding or developing the communication in your marriage or relationship.

My Thoughts

I know I say this a lot, but this isn't the typical genre that I read.  With that being said, I still enjoyed these books.  I am married and found both books very informative and helpful.  They would be great for couples who are engaged to read before getting married but they would also be wonderful for couples who have been married for a while.  They are quick reads so they don't take up a ton of your time and, the time it does take to read them is well worth it.

Revenge: Sweet as Cain by D. A. Kelley

Goodreads Summary

Dr. Elissa Johnson has an aching bitterness in her heart that only revenge can soothe. Adopted at birth, at an early age it was no secret the people she called parents, had no real love for her, or any love for that matter. Although they proclaim to be Christians, the treatment she endures at their hands would suggest otherwise.

Elissa sets out to find her biological parents by hiring a private investigator. The information given to Elissa is more than she bargains for. Her newfound view of life fuels her need for revenge while the flame of hatred grows. Elissa's plan for vengeance is in motion with everything falling into place, until she reaches the final stage and an unsuspected twist is revealed.

My Thoughts

When I was asked to read and review this book, I agreed without really knowing what it was about.  Then, when I received it in the mail, I read the back and thought it sounded interesting.  While reading it last night, I was totally surprised!

While it did include the things I expected from reading the description on the back of the book, there were things that I totally did not expect!  I finished Revenge: Sweet As Cain in one sitting.  It was very good, very dramatic (in a good way), and the ending was extremely unexpected!
